Beyond its architectural setting, of the “white box like” exhibition space, Es Baluard offers a dynamic cultural space with world-class modern art, a beautiful courtyard terrace/restaurant, and amazing iews over the Bay of Palma.
Devoted to modern and contemporary art, Es Baluard is set on three floors, and boasts a collection of over 600 works from the late 19th century up to the present day linked to the scope of the Islands and with international reference.
The initial museum’s collection – which was formed by the donation and deposit of works from the Fundació d’Art Serra as well as the works deposited by Palma City Council, the Council of Mallorca and the Government of the Balearic Islands , has expanded through the inclusion of works acquired, donated and temporarily ceded by artists, collectors and entities.
Highlights include works by Cezanne, Gauguin, Picasso, Miró, Tàpies, but also innovative pieces by local and international contemporary artists.
In addition to its permanent collections and regular education and training programme, Es Baluard offers a rich program of activities, events and rotating termporary exhibitions that enhance the knowledge of the cultural heritage of the Balearic Islands.
